My First Exhibition!

30th June 2012

From the August Bank Holiday weekend my first exhibition, True West, will be showing in the Connemara National Park Visitor Centre in Letterfrack. The opening of the exhibition is at 8pm on Friday the 3rd of August and I'm honoured to have Leo Hallissey officially opening the show. Leo has done a lot of work promoting environmental awareness and appreciation both locally and nationally. Part of the reason I take photos is to show people the beauty of the world we live in. If I can promote wonder for our environment even just a fraction as well as Leo has done I'll be doing well. There will be complimentary food and wine at the opening, and maybe some music and candles for atmosphere. The prints on show will be limited edition (only 10 of each), and each will be signed and framed. The exhibition will run for 2 weeks.

The theme of the exhibition is the landscapes of Galway and Mayo. If you look at a map of Ireland it's clear that both these counties stick out into the Atlantic perhaps more prominently than any other part of Ireland. Although Kerry has the most westerly point and plenty of other counties can lay claim to a length of western seaboard, the sheer bulk of Galway and Mayo seems to attract the idea of being "out west" more so than any other section of Ireland. Ask people about the west of Ireland and most will probably think of Galway and Mayo. It's for these reasons that I came to the title "True West".

As I've never done something like this before I'm quite nervous about it, although I'm also hugely excited. Spread the word. Hope to see you there.

Richard
